Each ingredient counts!

Pancake Tuesday was anticipated by the ACTs group who were considering 1 Corinthians 12:14-27 in terms of the eggs, flour, milk, and skill! needed to make pancakes and what that means for each of us.

21 So then, the eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” Nor can the head say to the feet, “Well, I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, we cannot do without the parts of the body that seem to be weaker; …..27 All of you are Christ’s body, and each one is a part of it.

Salt of the earth

thumb_img_1670_1024The ACTs group did some tasty experiments to think about Matthew 5:13-20 this week ‘you are the salt of the earth‘. We ate crisps with and without salt and used salt water to float an egg. We decided that we can add ‘flavour’ to the world because of the support Jesus gives us.

A grand tour…

It was entirely a co-incidence that the ACTs group were helping each other direct paper clip ‘cars’ being led by magnets blind around a race track (and nothing to do with a certain car show beginning on TV) This helped us (very competitively) explore examples of leadership and follower-ship in reference to the below verses.

Titus 2:7 In all things you yourself must be an example of good behavior. Be sincere and serious in your teaching.

1 Peter 5:3 Do not try to rule over those who have been put in your care, but be examples to the flock.

Psalm 32:8 The Lord says, “I will teach you the way you should go; I will instruct
you and advise you.

Looking forwards not backwards

The ACTS group agreed today that running forwards was much easier than backwards!

As we then pondered Philippians 3: 13-14 Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus everyone was able to think of things they were proud of now and goals for the future. We agreed that achieving these would be easier if we were not repeatedly looking back to past failures or disappointments, but focusing on what God has given us gifts to do.

A Harvest service holding ‘the world in our hands’

What a fantastic time we had as the WHOLE congregation supported a giant Pokemon GO style message spelling out THE WORLD IS IN OUR HANDS. There was lots of fun working out which card should be joined with streamers to the next one, turning our card ‘Pokestops’ pink, ‘releasing’ Pokemon at the ends of words and finding sweets. Thanks to everyone for pitching in to make it fun and helping us note that while Pokemon puts lots of magical creatures around us and gives us lots of things to collect, we already have the gift of a wonderful world and the tools to look after it if we all join together.
